HOUMA, La. - A shopper told Houma Police the 70 items she allegedly stole from Walmart were intended as Christmas gifts for relatives.

Sharon Lee Clark, 55, told officers she 'has a lot of relatives back home in Florida, and there ain't no Santa Claus,' according to the police report.

Employees of the Walmart on Grand Caillou Road told police Sunday afternoon they saw someone shoplift 70 items, and officers found Clark trying to leave the store with over $750 worth of merchandise without paying, police said today in a news release.

Clark, of Bayou Black Drive in Houma, admitted to stealing the items, and Walmart got the merchandise back, police said.

She was charged with theft over $500 and was in jail today on a $5,000 bond.
