HOUMA, La. Deputies used an airboat and helicopter to locate a woman who had lied about being kidnapped, and, before later admitting the truth, told deputies that she had been raped and spontaneously given birth, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, the sheriff's office received a complaint from the Golden Meadow Police Department in reference to a missing pregnant woman.

After 911 operators tracked her cell phone to a swamp area behind Senior Citizen Drive in Chauvin, they discovered her abandoned vehicle, deputies said.

An airboat, a helicopter and a dozen law enforcement officials searched the swamp and located the partially-clothed woman, Kelly Brown, inside the wooded swamp area.

She reported that an unknown black man had kidnapped her in Golden Meadow, forced her to drive to Houma, led her to the swamp, raped her and, after she delivered a child, stolen her baby, TPSO said.

As she was transported to the Terrebonne General Medical Center, all resources remained in the wooded area in an attempt to locate the baby and/or suspect, according to the sheriff's office.

When she arrived at the hospital, Brown told a detective a similar story. Through further interview, she admitted that she was not kidnapped or raped and did not deliver a child, TPSO said.

Brown said she had made up the story because her family thought she was pregnant, and she did not know how to tell them that she was not.

She was arrested and booked for one count of criminal mischief (filing a false complaint) at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.
