JEFFERSON, La. -- The Jefferson Parish Council has thrown its support behind a food truck festival in Fat City.

It's a new effort to breathe life back into Metairie's former nightlife district.

The event is scheduled for April 15 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If it's successful, Councilwoman Cynthia-Lee Sheng says regular gatherings could be held once a month on Monday nights, possibly with live music.

Food trucks were banned in Jefferson Parish shortly after Hurricane Katrina.
