NEW ORLEANS -- When a homeowner heard gunshots outside her home Sunday in the 7th Ward, she opened her door to find two bloodied men on her porch.

'I just opened my door today and two guys just collapsed right there on my steps,' resident Bernadette Tyler said.

The gunshots happened at a Mother's Day second line parade near Villere and Frenchmen streets. In all, 17 people were shot, and one person was injured while falling, according to NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

Tyler said her family did all they could to help the two victims until EMS arrived.

'Me and my daughter did the best thing we can to revive them, and I think we helped save another life today.'

Adriana Stewart was marching in the parade. She said it was a chaotic scene.

'My family was second-lining in the parade, and then all of a sudden it just stopped, and everybody started running and running, and we didn't know what was going on and they're shooting. And they say children was shot and everything,' Stewart said. 'It's just time to stop with the violence. It's not cool. It's Mother's Day. Who want to lose a child on Mother's Day?'
