LAROSE, La. A man captured a burglar carrying several stolen items after discovering the suspect inside his vehicle Thursday, authorities said.

The man used his firearm to confront 22-year-old Eric Carney when he discovered the burglar inside his vehicle at East 2nd Street before 5 a.m., Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said. Carney surrendered a knife and brass knuckles before the Sheriff's Office was called, deputies said.

Deputies arrested Carney and found him carrying prescription Xanax pills and several other items reportedly stolen, authorities said. Detectives said Carney allegedly burglarized six vehicles and attempted to break into two others.

Authorities placed Carney into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $280,000 bond. Carney was charged with aggravated burglary, six counts of simple burglary, two counts of attempted vehicle burglary and possession of Xanax, deputies said.

Detective Warren Callais urges anyone who may have information regarding Carney or the burglaries in that area to contact at (985) 532-4320 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
