NEWORLEANS-- AFlorida man is facing a vehicular homicide charge in a crash that took the life of a 17-year-old woman Tuesday, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Alfred McKnight, 28, was booked on the charge after the accident around 11:15 p.m. on Interstate-10, at the Lafitte Street exit, Officer Gary Flot, a spokesman for NOPD, said.
McKnight was driving westbound on the interstate when he hit a SUV driven by an 18-year-old woman with a 17-year-old woman and 15-year-old male as passengers, Flot said. After McKnight rear-ended the SUV, the 18-year-old lost control, hit a cement guardrail and the SUV flipped several times.
The 17-year-old was thrown from the SUV and was pronounced dead on the scene. The 18-year-old female driver and 15-year-old male passenger were taken to the hospital, and their injuries are not life threatening, Flot said. McKnight was not injured in the crash.
