SLIDELL, La. -- The St. Tammany Fire Department is investigating a residential structure fire that occurred just before 6:00 a.m. on Short Street in Slidell Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived at the home and found heavy smoke coming from the garage of a 2400-square-foot single story condominium duplex.

According to the fire department, the owner, whose garage was on fire, woke up to the smell of smoke and a noise coming from the garage. The owner went to investigate and discovered heavy smoke and flames in the garage. She was able to safely evacuate the residence and call 911 from a cell phone.

The occupants in the adjacent unit were also able to safely evacuate their residence. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters received the call around 5:53 a.m. and were on the scene in 10 minutes. They were able to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes of their arrival.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
