KENNER, La. - A parolee led police on a high-speed chase after stealing a car that had been left unattended and running in a Kenner driveway Thursday morning.
According to Kenner Police, the victim started the car and left it unattended in order to let it warm up.
The victim went back outside to get into the car and found it gone.
Police were alerted and the 2007 Toyota Camry was spotted entering I-10 westbound at Loyola Drive. Police gave chase and said the driver refused to pull the vehicle over. The chase ended at mile marker 206 in LaPlace when the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Antoine Reed, lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into a wooded area.
Police said Reed attempted to flee but he was chased down and bitten by a K-9.
Reed was on parole from the Department of Corrections since July 2013. He was on parole for simple burglary and illegal carrying of a weapon. He had previous convictions for possession of marijuana, 3 counts of simple burglary and felony carrying of firearms.
Reed was taken to the hospital to be treated for dog bites. He will be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, driving without a license and some previous parole warrants.
