JEFFERSON- Three Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputies were treated for smoke inhalation after entering a burning home Saturday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Fire Department says, just after 1 p.m., the deputies were the first ones on the scene of the fire in the 600 block of Betz Avenue.

Neighbors told the deputies that a woman may have been inside of the home. The deputies entered but could not find anyone inside.

Fire officials say when firefighters arrived on the scene the three deputies had exited the building and were in front of the home. The deputies were transported to the hospital.

Colonel John Fortunato, with JPSO, confirmed that the deputies were treated and released from the hospital the same day.

Fire officials say there was no one in the home at the time of the fire. The fire was contained to one bedroom in the home.

Fire officials say no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
