SLIDELL, La. -- A popular dolphin often spotted swimming in a Slidell canal has died, according to wildlife and fisheries officials.

The body of the dolphin was removed from the canal Sunday.

The dolphin frequently swam alongside boats in Lakeshore Estates near Slidell entering the waterway where he lives.

He had been seen swimming in the area since Hurricane Katrina. As Doug Mouton reported in 2011, the dolphin could have swam into the open waters of Lake Pontchartrain and beyond, but he stayed near Lakeshore Estates instead.

In 2012, reports surfaced of the dolphin attacking several people in the area.
