NEW ORLEANS -- It's Christmas in July! Well, at least at the Bridge House it is.
Bridge House hosted its 20th annual Christmas in July dinner for the local homeless. More than 100 volunteers and alumni of the program handed out clothing and toiletries to those in need. They enjoyed a hearty lunch from Mother's Restaurant.
But organizers said the needy weren't the only ones who benefited from the event.
'It's a really special day for the volunteers,' said Kevin Gardere, the Bridge House director of development. 'They're not just serving. They're communicating with the individuals, and the homeless individuals may not have had a fresh ear to talk to in quite some time, and that goes a long way.'
Bridge House also offers an outreach program for those struggling with alchol and drug addictions.
