JEFFERSON -- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is searching for a man who failed to register as a sex offender.

Deputies said they are searching for Kenneth Lee Smith, also known as Kenneth L. Jackson or Kenny L. Smith. Smith has been wanted by JPSO since May 7.

Smith was convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile, which by law requires Smith to register as a sex offender. The victim was a 14-year-old girl at the time of the offense, according to JPSO.

Deputies believe family members of Smith are helping him avoid arrest, according to JPSO. Deputies said Smith set his sex offender registration address as a family member's house in Kenner, but deputies don't believe Smith ever lived there.

Deputies said Smith also has two prior convictions for failure to register as a sex offender and a prior conviction for illegal possession of stolen things. Deputies also said Smith has a prior criminal history with arrests for battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

If you have any information regarding Smith's whereabouts, please call Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111.
