NEW ORLEANS New Orleans police have arrested two additional suspects in connection with a Lower Ninth Ward shooting that claimed the life of two people and injured five others.

Joseph Nelson, 23, faces two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder.

The drive-by shooting happened Aug. 10 in the 5400 block of Burgundy Street.

Two people, 16-year-old Jasmine Anderson and 33-year-old Terrance McBride, died from injuries sustained in the shooting. Five others, including a 2-year-old and 4-year-old, were shot.

Police believe the shooting was drug-related and that McBride was the intended target.

Police also booked 25-year-old Ashley Shorts on a conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice charge. The NOPDsays she helped one of the shooters'to help them avoid detection and prosecution.'

Police had already arrested Blair Taylor, 20, and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder. Jeffery Rivers, 25, has also been booked as a principal to the crime. They believe he supplied the murder weapon and getaway car.
