SLIDELL, La. A man who was in need of money to pay his probation fees robbed a woman at gunpoint just a few blocks from the Slidell Police Dept. However, the gunman, identified as 18-year-old Terry Jones, didn't realize that what he stole wasn't the woman's purse, but instead a diaper bag.

Police said Jones quickly realized the diaper bag had nothing of value to him, but by that time police had been notified and Jones aided in his own address by running right past a police officer, who apprehended him without incident.

The armed robbery of the diaper bag took place in the 2700 block of Mary Street at the Forestwood Apartments.

'I'm thankful no one was injured, and glad to see another violent criminal taken off of our streets,' said Police Chief Randy Smith.

Jones, who was cooperative with detectives, told them he was looking for money in order to pay his probation fees from a prior narcotics arrest. Jones was booked into the Slidell City Jail with one count of Armed Robbery. Jones will ultimately be transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where a bond will be set.
