GARYVILLE, La. (AP) -- St. John the Baptist Parish authorities say a man working to dismantle a Mississippi River barge for salvage has died after a piece of the metal deck fell on him.

The Times-Picayune reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/sXJlY9 ) that the victim's name has not been released pending notification of his relatives. He is believed to be from Mexico.

Deputies were called to the river batture in Garyville at 10:19 a.m. on Tuesday. There they found the 29-year old man unresponsive. Authorities say he died on the scene.

Authorities say the man was employed by Rectec LLC of Loranger.
