NEW ORLEANS The Hornets have signed guard Donald Sloan to a 10-day contract.

The move comes a day after the team cut ties with guard Carldell Johnson, played in 15 games for New Orleans.

Sloan was released from Atlanta on Jan. 27 after playing in five games for the Hawks. He started his season with the D-League's Erie Bayhakws, averaging 24.8 points, 8.4 assists and 5.2 rebounds in five games.

The 6-foot-3 guard played at Texas A&M, earning first-team Big 12 honors his senior season when he averaged 17.8 points. Sloan was born in Shreveport but grew up in Dallas.

Besides cutting ties with Johnson, the Hornets also waived forward DeJuan Summers on Tuesday.

Summers started six games for New Orleans, but missed Monday night's loss to Sacramento after having one of his knees drained. He averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds for the Hornets in 15 games.
