LAPLACE, La. - OnMonday, one of the two St. John Parish sheriff's deputies killed in Thursday's shoot out was laid to rest.

Friends and family gathered to remember Jeremy Triche.

The visitation started at 9 a.m. at New Wine Christian Fellowship on West Airline.

The funeral mass started at 11 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Law enforcement from all over the state turned out, including members from Iberia Parish, Calcasieu Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish.

The funeral service for Brandon Nielsen, the other deputy, is set for Wednesday.

Two memorial funds have been set up in the names of Triche and Nielsen. Donations can be sent to the Louisiana Federal Credit Union at P.O. Box 1956 in LaPlace, Louisiana 70069 or be given online. Donations can be made in the name of either officer or made out to both.

Blood drives are being held on Monday to suport the two injured officers:

  • River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace will host a drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sugar Mill Apartments on Williams Boulevard in Kenner will host a drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
