KENNER , La. - With thousands of people expected to travel by air to their Thanksgiving destination, airports could become quite crowded on Wednesday.

Officials are urging travelers to plan ahead of their trip as they predict the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport will get very busy.

Law enforcement was on standby at the airport, as they are expected to be needed to manage traffic.

The 5,000 parking spaces, both long-term and short-term, will most likely be filled, airport officials said.

Workers are trying to process people as quickly as possible, but Thanksgiving travelers have more luggage than usual for a middle-of-the-week flight, which may slow down the operation.

There will be enhanced security at the airport, so it is suggested that passengers arrive at least two hours prior to departure.

Airlines offer advance check-in online, which will speed up the process if done before coming to the airport.

Officials suggest travelers have their boarding pass and identification ready when approaching the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint.

In order to ease the process, jet-setters should place jewelery and valuables in a quart-sized plastic bag before going through screening.

Only one carry-on bag and one personal item (such as a small purse, briefcase or laptop) is allowed.

Officials also warn commuters to not wrap any Christmas gifts they are traveling with.
