NEW ORLEANS A 20-year-old suspect wanted in relation to the shooting death of a man in Gert Town on Sunday has turned himself into police, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police confirmed that Michael Smith Jr., who is believed by police to be the gunman in the Gert Town shooting, surrendered to police Tuesday.

Around 1:10 a.m. Sunday, officers arrived to the murder scene in the 3400 block of Audubon Court. They discovered Joshua Walker, 25, lying in the street and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators conducted several interviews, which led to the positive identification of Michael Smith Jr. as the gunman in the fatal shooting, according to the NOPD.
