THIBODAUX, La. Nicholls State erased a 4-2 deficit by scoring 12 unanswered runs en route to defeating New Orleans14-4 at Ray Didier Field on Tuesday night.

The two teams traded leads before UNO (4-22) moved ahead 4-2 with a three-run fifth inning. A Brian Dixon two-run single plated a pair of Privateer runs with Zach Liberto drawing a bases loaded walk to complete the three-run frame.

UNO held NSU (14-12) without a score in the bottom of the fifth before the Colonels came roaring back with five runs in the sixth. The Colonels had four hits, drew a pair of walks and had a batter hit by pitch in the inning.

Phillip Lyons was one of the five NSU batters with a pair of hits in the contest, including a two-run single in the sixth that put the Colonels ahead to stay. The Colonels added seven more runs to their count in the eighth inning.

Jonathan Coco led the Privateers with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Coco extended his hitting streak to seven games with a second inning single that moved Dixon to third base. Dixon would score a batter later when Liberto singled to left field.

Reese Kanter joined Dixon and Liberto with two hits apiece for UNO, which clubbed nine hits for the game.

Zach Thiac (2-1) was the winning pitcher for NSU, coming in with two outs in the fourth and throwing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. Leo Vargas scored a trio of runs during a 2-for-2 night to back up Thiac's effort while Tyler Duplantis and Mike Barba also coming across the plate two times apiece.

Stephen Potter (0-1) took the loss for the Privateers after allowing three runs on two hits in 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. Daniel Martinez started off for the visiting squad, conceding two runs on four hits while lasting four innings.

UNO will now turn its attention to a four-game series with Big 12 opponent West Virginia, beginning on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT. The weekend set continues on Friday at 2 p.m. before concluding with games on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
