NEW ORLEANS -- A proposed bill in the legislative session would allow you to make a left turn on a red light just as you now can make a right turn on red.

The bill from state Rep. Terry Landry, D-Opelousas, still gives oncoming traffic the right of way.

But if there is no oncoming traffic, the proposal allows the driver to stop on red and then turn left or even make a uturn.

Landry says it would reduce traffic congestion.
