COVINGTON, La. An armed robber boldly used a stun gun to overcome a woman in a parking lot Monday evening, getting away with her purse and contents within in, authorities said.

According to Covington Police, the victim had recently finished her work shift at a business on Kirkland Street, just two blocks away from police headquarters, and was walking to her car when an older model white car, with a faded black stripe on the side, pulled up.

Covington Police Capt. Jack West said, 'He walked toward her, started asking for directions. She started to give him directions and when he got close enough to her, he pulled out some sort of electronic stun device, put it to her body, stunned her and then grabbed her purse.'

The man then darted back to the car, jumping into the passenger side as the car sped away, police said. Police say they haven't seen any other cases like this recently. Other women who live and work in the area are baffled about this calibur of crime.

'I'm shocked, it's just terrible, really surprised to hear that,' said Fran Perrin, 'I feel, I felt like I was safer here.'

The woman described her assailant as a black man in his teens or early 20s with medium complexion and short hair, police said. No witnesses have been found, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Covington Police Department at 985-892-8500 or CrimeStoppers are 877-903-7867.
