METAIRIE, La. - A street repair project that began Tuesday could affect commuters on Airline Drive.

Lane closures will occur as crews resurface parts of the roadway.

Concrete walks, curbs and handicap ramps will be removed and replaced.

Drivers should expect right lane closures along Airline between Labarre and Transcontinental through Saturday, warned the Department of Transportation and Development.

The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Airline Drive is one of the latest roadways to get a makeover.

The road work is part of an effort to upgrade roads leading to the Huey P. Long Bridge, which has been undergoing construction.

Other roads, such as Clearview, will see resurfacing later in 2013.

The Huey P. Project should wrap up when officials hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the widened bridge on June 16.
