GRETNA, La. -- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said that a former Jefferson Parish art teacher surrendered to authorities after learning that an arrest warrant had been issued over allegations that he made improper sexual advances to high school students.

The sheriff's office said three students reported incidents of solicitation and obscene comments from John Rene Pierre, 47, of Gretna, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.

The first came in October 2012 when a 17-year-old John Ehret High School student told his father that Pierre sent harassing text messages of sexual content to him and allegedly made obscene comments toward him, Normand said.

Deputies said the student reported that Pierre once removed all of his clothing while requesting the 17 year-old to draw a picture of his backside. A 16-year-old and 18-year-old reported similar incidents later that month, Detective Brian Johnson said.

Investigators also seized the former art teacher's desk computer following allegations from victims, witnesses and faculty members that Pierre would show the victims pornographic images on his school computer, deputies said.

Deputies said there are reports of Pierre also trying to coax students into a 'back room' in hopes of performing activity sexual in nature with them.

Jefferson Parish authorities urge the parents of any students who may have had contact with Pierre along these same allegations to call Detective Brian Johnson at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
