GRETNA, La. - Outside of a fast food restaurant in Gretna, workers from McDonald's, Wendy's, General Dollar and Rally's are rallying in support of a higher minimum wage.

They join a national movement of employees calling for a $15 per-hour wage, and the right to form a union without retaliation or unfair labor practices.

One study finds the median wage is $8.54 per-hour in the New Orleans area, but an adult with one child needs to make $19.72 per-hour, working full time in this area, just to afford the basics, according to the study.
