NEW ORLEANS -- Police have apprehended a second suspect in connection with the murder of 1-year-old Londyn Samuels.

Darnell Ramee, 19, faces first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges.

Samuels was gunned down on Aug. 29 while her 18-year-old babysitter, who also suffered injuries, was carrying her.

NOPD officers and U.S. Marshals tracked Remee down to a home in the 2900 block of Paris Avenue and brought him into custody.

'This is phenomenal work done by our Homicide division,' said NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas. 'I can't praise these detectives enough. Detective Robert Barrere, who was the lead in this case, was tenacious, and I had no doubt that he and our team would wrap up this case. I'm hoping the people of this neighborhood can rest a bit easier tonight.'

According to NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden, officials believe Ramee was the gunman who killed Samuels. His alleged co-perpetrator, 24-year-old Keelen Armstrong, is behind bars after police arrested him Wednesday night.

Armstrong also faces first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges.

Braden said Ramee has prior arrests for illegal carrying of weapons and possession of stolen property.

In a separate case, a triple shooting that left 11-year-old Arabiana Gayles dead and her 11-year-old cousin injured, police have person of interest Keith Ward in custody for questioning.

Braden said detectives believe Ward was at the scene of the shooting.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
