JEFFERSON, La. Family and friends held a benefit concert dedicated to the memory of a 2-year-old girl killed by gun violence.

Four bands played for the crowd Sunday afternoon at Southport Hall in Jefferson.

They all came out to support the family of Makayla Middleton. Just over a month ago, Middleton was found dead in a house near Abita Springs. Also in that home was the body of Jacob Middleton Sr.

Jacob Middleton Jr., 17, is charged with two counts of murder. He's accused of shooting his father and half-sister Makayla, who was remembered Sunday as the little girl with a constant smile.

'Her nickname was Sweet, so we called her Princess Sweet,' said mother Kellie Smith. 'And I just love her so much. I really wish I could wake up from this nightmare.'

Proceeds from the concert and silent raffle will help the family pay for funeral expenses.
