The Bureau of Prisons says Peter Galvan, the former St. Tammany Parish coroner, has reported for his two-year sentence at the minimum security complex in Pollock, La.
Galvan entered a guilty plea and was ordered to pay at least $193,000 in restitution to his former office on Feb. 12.
During sentencing, Galvan apologized to family members and told the judge, 'I am ready to accept the court's punishment.'
He could have faced up to five years in prison but the deal cut tie down to 24 months max.
Galvan received more than $100,000 of improper sick and vacation leave along with making more than $30,000 in personal purchases with office funds and coroner credit cards.
