NEW ORLEANS -- The search is currently on for suspects behind several violent crimes in both Orleans and Jefferson parishes over the weekend.

The New Orleans Police Department and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office had their hands busy after four people were killed, including a pregnant woman, her unborn child, and a 15-year-old boy, Corey Martin.

In Orleans Parish, a 17-year-old male was shot multiple times in the 1800 block of St. Roch Avenue. Police say the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, and that the unidentified teen was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

New Orleans police are also investigating the murder of a 15-year-old Martin in the 9th Ward. It happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Bartholomew Street. Police say he was shot multiple times and died on the scene.

These two latest shooting incidents come on the heels of a very successful recruitment fair for the New Orleans Police Department over the weekend, where dozens of people showed up to learn more about the police department, and how to become a member.

Superintendent Ronal Serpas, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, and other police and city officials also attended Saturday's event. The NOPD's goal is to reach 1,575 officers.

In Jefferson Parish, deputies are investigating the death of an unidentified man, as well as the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, both of which occurred very early Sunday morning on the Westbank.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is desperate for clues in a homicide that claimed the life of pregnant woman and her baby. Deputies say the murder happened in the 600 block of Whitney Avenue in Gretna. JPSO officials say they received a call shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday morning, from a man who found 23-year-old Katherine Martinez dead in her apartment. She was apparently stabbed to death and deputies say that neither she, nor her baby were able to be saved.

Then just blocks away, a man was found shot to death near the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Ruby Street late Saturday night. Deputies say he was shot multiple times. They do not believe this shooting was related to the death of Martinez and her baby.

Both NOPD and JPSO are asking for the public's help Monday in these incidents over the weekend. If you have any information that can help investigators in either parish, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
