GRAND ISLE, La.-- The families of the 11 workers killed when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf will visit the White House next week.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made the announcement to reporters traveling with President Barack Obama as he toured the Gulf on Friday.

Gibbs said that Obama had written to the 11 families to extend the invitation so that he can pay personal condolences. The visit will happen next Thursday.
