BELLE CHASSE, La. State Police arrested a man who was originally believed to be a passenger in a fatal crash on the Belle Chasse Bridge, after learning that man was a driver of the vehicle that plunged 40 feet off the bridge.

Edwin Juarez, 28, was arrested on two counts of negligent homicide in deaths of Jose Gustavo Reyes, 31, and Ronaldo Jimenez, 29, both of Metairie, one count of carless operation, no driver's license and no insurance, according to State Police.

Juarez was booked into the Plaquemines Parish Jail, and a blood analysis for Juarez is pending. The crash remains under investigation, according to State Police.

Reyes was originally believed to be the driver of the SUV on Tuesday evening, which hit a concrete barrier on the bridge, vaulted over the edge and crashed 40 feet below the structure, according to State Police. After further investigation, police determined that Juarez was the driver of the SUV.

Juarez and Herson Omar Juarez, 24, of Metairie, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to State Police.
