One of the nice things about technology is that it lets you, the viewers, let us know what you think right away. Many of you have been awfully nice in your comments. Others have really let me have it. Here's a sample:
On the fall of Bill Jefferson's political machine, Rick in Gretna wrote:
'Clancy's commentary did not go far enough. He could have mentioned why Dollar Bill Jeffer$on, who was convicted and sentenced to 13 years in 2009, still remains a free man.'
You're right, Rick. Jefferson remains free because his appeal has been delayed several times. Some people never stop gaming the system.
My commentary on the federal convictions of Greg Meffert and Mark St. Pierre drew lots of responses. I said that those two guys, who were business partners, showed that sometimes the notion of running government 'like a business' may not be such a great idea.
I obviously didn't get my point across very clearly but a lot of you were very clear in your reaction.
Like Dean, who wrote:
'Saying that criminals who committed fraud ran City Hall like a business is like saying Al Qaeda ran Afghanistan like a church.'
Amen to that.
On the same subject, Matthew wrote:
'We may not be in such tremendous debt right now if government spent more time running itself as for-profit corporations do.'
That's true, but some corporations go bankrupt, kind of like government these days.
Here's my bottom line: Thanks for watching and for letting us know what you think.
