NEW ORLEANS - A Warren Easton High School history teacher has been selected as the 2012 Louisiana History Teacher of the Year by a panel of teachers, administrators and academics, the school announced Friday.
Jane Toomey was chosen for 'engaging students with dedication and creativity, as well as her use of primary documents in the classroom, level of inspiration for her students and her many career achievements in education.'
As the 2012 Louisiana History Teacher of the Year, Toomey will receive a monetary award, a certificate of recognition, an archive of books and historical resources presented in her name to Easton's library, and an invitation to attend a 2013 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar.
She is also a finalist for the National History Teacher of the Year Award. In addition, Easton will be named a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School with access to their extensive teacher resources.
