NEWORLEANS - There's a big change for residents in Orleans and Jefferson parishes who still want to apply for disaster food stamps.

Not only will the sites now be open through Thursday, but the hours have been extended from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The letter system is also being reinstated. On Wednesday at UNO and the Alario Center, residents with last names that begin with A through M will be allowed to apply. On Thursday, residents with last names that begin with N through Zwill be allowed to apply.
