NEWORLEANS - The highest number of people in six years were arrested during the Bayou Classic weekend, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Out of the 63 people physically arrested, nine were for firearms and 13 were for narcotics.

Half of those charged with gun possession were felons, according to Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

Thirty-six people were issued summons, also the highest number in six years.

During the weekend, 272 additional officers were added, Serpas said.
