BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU has a new system president.

The Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved the hiring of F. King Alexander, currently a higher education official in California and the lone finalist for the LSU job.

Alexander has been president of California State University Long Beach since 2006.

Before that, he was president of Murray State University in Kentucky. He's also held positions at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana; University of Wisconsin, Madison; and University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
