COVINGTON, LA - A man died in a motorcycle crash on I-12 while fleeing from deputies on a stolen bike. The crash happened just after 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says the man, identified as 23-year-old Harold Tucker of LaPlace, stole the motorcycle from an auto dealership on Highway 190 in Covington. When deputies spotted the stolen bike, Tucker drove away and entered I-12 heading westbound. He then exited at Highway 1077 and continued eastbound on the interstate.

Sheriff's deputies were about to call off the chase due to traffic conditions, when Tucker attempted to pass a vehicle on the inside shoulder. He lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the roadway. The Sheriff's department says Tucker crashed into the protective cables in the median of the interstate. The coroner's report said he died of 'multiple traumatic injuries.' A toxicology report was pending.

The Sheriff's office says no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver of the motorcycle had no previous criminal history.
