KENNER, La. A verbal argument that escalated appears to be the motive behind a fatal shooting in Kenner Friday morning, according to the Kenner Police Department.

Around 9:55 a.m., police arrived at the scene at Performance Automotive at 2416 Connecticut Avenue and discovered the body of Shane Vicknair, 27, of River Ridge, KPD said.

Investigators learned that Vicknair was involved in an argument with another man prior to the shooting.

Hours after the murder, the suspect described by witnesses contacted the police department through his attorney and surrendered himself.

Roger Batiste, 75, of LaPlace also surrendered the gun allegedly used in the shooting, police said.

Batiste was booked with second degree murder and placed in custody.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 504-712-2238 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
