NEW ORLEANS A 25-year-old woman was fatally shot in the Treme neighborhood after witnesses overheard her arguing with a group of men, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and North Roman Street, police said.

The woman was fighting with three men on bicycles when, moments later, gunfire erupted, according to witnesses.

The victim was then seen lying on her back and unresponsive on the 'neutral ground,' witnesses told the NOPD. The suspects fled the area on their bikes.

A witness immediately called for police, and upon arrival, officers found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds to the body.

Emergency Medical Services attempted to resuscitate the victim but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the NOPD.

Investigators gathered evidence to identify the suspects and a motive.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or 1-877-903-STOP (toll-free.)
