WAGGAMAN, La. -- Jefferson Parish deputies say a 16-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed a 20-year-old man while playing with a gunMonday.

The 16-year-old boy won't be identified because of his age.

The shooting happened Monday morning around midnight. Deputies say the body of 20-year-old Lydell Hartford was found lying in his driveway with a gunshot wound to the neck. Hartford was pronounced dead in the hospital.

Deputies say Hartford and two other teens were sitting in a car in front of the victim's home when the shooting occurred. When the 16-year-old boy began unloading the gun, the victim told him not to play with it.

The 16-year-old, thinking he had unloaded the weapon, began pulling the trigger 'three to four times.' The gun went off, and the Hartford was shot in the neck.

The 16-year-old faces a negligent homicide charge. He's being held in the Juvenile Assessment Center. He has no arrest history.
