FRANKLINTON, La. - The Coast Guard and Washington Parish Sheriff's Office are searching for a woman who has been missing on the Bogue Chitto River since Sunday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, 22-year-old Melanie Borja of Picayune, Mississippi, jumped off of her tube and started swimming around 4 p.m. She was last seen swimming about halfway down the Bogue Chitto River.

The Coast Guard said it is searching an area of about five miles in the vicinity of the river. Around 8 p.m. searchers pulled out of the river for the night. Sonar used by crews didn't turn up anything, and the search will resume Tuesday morning.

Borja was said to last be seen wearing a two-piece bathing suit with a white top and a blue bottom. She has red hair.

The search includes a Coast Guard helicopter and crew and a Washington Parish Sheriff's Office boat crew.
