Investigators believe the victim was shot as a result of someone discharging a weapon in the same apartment building at 2828 Destrehan Ave.,' John Fortunato, Public Information Officer for the JPSO, said in a news release.

The night before, on September 7, deputies were called to 23-year-old Pierre Camese's apartment, because of an incident between Camese and an unidentified female.

During an interview Camese told detectives that because he was fearful of retaliation from his girlfriend's family after the battery incident that occurred the night before, he got a 12-gauge shotgun from a friend, and placed the shotgun on the bed with the barrel pointed at the wall. When he pulled the covers up on his bed, the gun accidentally discharged, he told Officers.
