METAIRIE, La. - Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11 and as people all over the United States look back on the day, residents in the New Orleans metro area will hold ceremonies of remembrance today as well.

At the September 11 Memorial at the intersection of Veterans and Causeway Boulevards there will be an event to remember the victims of that tragic day. People will come together in Metairie tyo wave American flags and hold signs to remember September 11. A Patriotic wave is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight. A candlelight vigil will follow from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

There are also several memorial events on the Northshore today. In Folsom, there will be a candlelight vigil in honor and remembrance of the September 11 victims. A flag ceremony is schedules for 7:30 p.m. and words of introduction followed by a PowerPoint presentation of photos and videos. Several speakers, poets, singers, and spiritual leaders are expected to attend the event. The ceremony will take place in the parking lot of The Z Grill & Internet Cafe on Highway 25 in Folsom.

The City of Slidell is also hosting a Patriot Day Ceremony honoring all first responders and military today. The Patriot Day Ceremony will take place in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium at 2056 Second Street in Olde Towne Slidell. There will be several speakers including Slidell Mayor Freddy Drennan, and the Slidell Police Chief and Fire Chief. The ceremony will also include a moment of silence and the ringing of the bells. The Slidell Youth Community Orchestra will perform at 7:00 p.m. following the ceremony.

These are just a few of the ways the New Orleans Metro Area is remembering those who lost their lives in the September 11 terrorist attacks.
