With Tropical Storm Karen in the Gulf of Mexico, many people are thinking of what they need to do to get ready, and being prepared us half the battle.
People in our area unfortunately have gone through this routine too many times, so none of this information is new just some things to keep in mind since the New Orleans Metro Area will feel the impacts of this storm.
If it was not done before storm season, this is a good time to restock disaster supplies, fill up car gas tanks in the event things take an unexpected turn for the worst at the last minute, and create a hurricane evacuation plan with family members.
A hurricane evacuation plan includes thinking about how pets will be cared for, and making accommodations for family members with special needs.
Red Cross has put together a list of some good things to have on hand in your homes in case residents have to stay put in their homes for a few days:
- 3-day supply of water
- Non-perishable food items
- First aid kit
- 7-day supply of medications
A big part of being prepared is just staying tuned in to updates from parish officials, which you can find on WWL-TV.com.
