DESTREHAN, La. -- Four Destrehan High School assistant football coaches and a coach's girlfriend are accused of hacking into a password-protected website to gain a game-day advantage over South Lafourche last Friday.

Investigators say the coaches looked at their opponent's practice film and game schemes stored on a site called HUDL.com.

'You feel like an opportunity is taken away from your kids and really that's all you're asking for, a chance for these kids to go out and be successful,' said South Lafourche head coach Dennis Skains.

Skains did not want to go into details, but said it was obvious Destrehan used inside information to beat his team 49-24 last week.

Late Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the St. Charles Parish School District told Eyewitness News that the district has now cleared Destrehan Head Coach Steve Robichaux of playing any role in the cheating scandal and he is no longer part of the district internal investigation.

The school launched an investigation and learned that a South Lafourche student and former football player gave his HUDL log-in and password to Destrehan coach Ryan Fournier and his girlfriend, Emily Guidry.

HUDL then supplied South Lafourche with additional information.

'They were able to give me dates, times and IP addresses, and using those IP addresses, we were able to track down, it had been used in Destrehan High School,' said South Lafourche Principal Gaye Cheramie.

She also said it appears the Destrehan coaches spent about nine hours looking at South Lafourche's practice films.

Cheramie turned over her finding to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.

'We did bring, initially, Ryan Fournier and Emily Guidry in for questioning and they did admit to their involvement in it and that led us obviously three of the additional coaches, which have also been charged in this case,' said LPSO spokesman Deputy Brennan Matherne.

All five were charged with offenses against intellectual property and summoned to appear in court.

The St. Charles Parish School District relieved the coaches of their duties until further notice.

'This is not representative of our district and our standards of what we expect from our employees,' said district spokeswoman Stevie Corvetto.

Meanwhile Skains said his South Lafourche Tarpons are already moving past the Destrehan game to the rest of the season and hopefully on to the playoffs.

'You've got to be the adult in the situation and understand that if you do something like this, you're not only helping your kids, but you're taking away from other kids, and I think and I guess if you get caught up in the winning and losing you can get lost in there somewhere,' said Skains.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association ordered Destrehan to forfeit last Friday's game.
