NEWORLEANS-- New Orleans police are investigating a double homicide Sunday afternoon in New Orleans East, but police say the bodies of a 19-year-old male and a 21-year old male were later found dumped on the side of the road in Lakeview.

The victims were identified as Kentrell Bankston, 21, and Shalom Smith, 19.

According to NOPD, the shooting happened at about 4:00 p.m. in the 6000 block of Craigie Street in New Orleans East, when officers received a call of shots fired in the area.

About 30 minutes later, Third District officers received a call from a passerby of two males lying unresponsive on the side of the street in the 300 block of Kenilworth Street in Lakeview.

NOPDspokesman Officer Garry Flot said the bodies of the two men were found dumped on the side of the road with multiple gun shot wounds. The two men were both pronounced dead on the scene, and they are not being identified at this time pending notification of family members, Flot said.

Investigators believe the two men were shot on Craigie Road and were driven to Kenilworth Street where they were left on the side of the road.

There's no word on a possible suspect or motive.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
