SLIDELL, La. - A 41-year-old mother was arrested for driving while intoxicated and when deputies pulled her over they noticed three young children in the backseat.
According to Suzanne Carboni, a spokeswoman for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, several people called to report that around 8 p.m. Thursday, they saw a white GMCSUV driving recklessly through the neighborhood.
The residents told deputies that the car nearly hit three people standing in their own yard, another man walking a dog and several mailboxes.
The car was stopped at a fast food drive thru on Gause Blvd. and police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol and saw three young children in the backseat.
Carboni said that the driver, Licia Greenleaf of Slidell, admitted that she had taken prescription medicine and drank some wine before getting in her vehicle.
Carboni said Greenleaf registered a .209 on the intoxilyizer and was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on counts of driving while intoxicated and careless operation.
Her three children - triplets under the age of 3 - were properly restrained in the car. They were released into the custody of a family friend and the case was forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services.
