NEWORLEANS -- A large piece of historic Gallier Hall's stone facade fell and and smashed steps below Tuesday morning.
The stone from the facade crashed on the steps, damaging the steps of the old City Hall, before rolling on to the sidewalk along St. Charles Avenue.
The five-foot section crashed into the granite front steps of the building, smashing at least six of the heavy stone steps, and broke into two large pieces, and stone chips flew across St. Charles Avenue.
No injuries have been reported. People passing by were shocked at the sight of the smashed block and broken steps.
City crews barricaded the front of Gallier Hall as they began the cleanup.
