The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a two vehicle crash that left a Metairie man dead and a Harahan man under arrest for drunk driving.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Cleveland Place and West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Authorities say Joseph Hoag, 23, of Harahan was driving a 2010 Nissan Altima traveling west on West Esplanade Avenue when he struck the rear of a 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Richard Fenn, 51, of Metairie, driving in the same direction.
As a result of the impact, the Trailblazer left the road, rolled into the canal, and became partially submerged.
The Altima then struck a utility pole at the location.
Richard Fenn was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger of the Trailblazer, a 27-year-old female from Kenner, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The passenger of the Altima, a 21-year-old male from Kenner, was treated on the scene for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the Altima, Joseph Hoag was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for driving while under the influence, vehicular homicide, reckless operation and vehicular negligent injury.
He was treated on the scene for minor injuries and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
