NEW ORLEANS -- An alleged, would-be looter picked the wrong house to try to break into, as he was shot by the resident before he could take anything.

The home is in the 1600 block of Lesseps and was still without power when police say the resident heard someone trying to break in at around 1:45 a.m. Monday.

The resident grabbed a handgun and reportedly fired a shot as the suspect was entering the home.

The bullet hit the 31-year-old suspect in the face before lodging in his shoulder.

He's in stable condition and charged with attempted burglary and looting.
